You don't need pins, or to tie it. It may have some elastic on it to keep it in place around the lower chin area. Our chiffon slip-on hijab has elastic on the chin area. Other slip-on hijabs don't have any elastic and it will fit properly too.  We have many different fabrics for hijabs, such as stretch and chiffon.  For added elegance, we put embroidery and bead work on some of our hijabs.
